How can Voodoo Hot Rods sell an epoxy-carbon/Kevlar '32 hiboy roadster body for less than a top quality steel reproduction body?

Despite that the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body is manufactured from high tech composite materials it costs less than a reproduction steel body due to the extremely high cost of tooling required to stamp steel panels. This can run into many millions of dollars, which must be recouped by the manufacturer. A steel reproduction is characterized by very expensive tooling and is made from relatively cheap materials, whereas an advanced composite body features comparatively expensive materials and relatively inexpensive tooling.

How can Voodoo Hot Rods sell an epoxy-carbon/Kevlar '32 hiboy roadster body for little more than the cost of a top quality glass fiber reproduction body?

Compared to a glass fiber reproduction, the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body uses significantly less composite material. Carbon fiber and Kevlar® are much stronger and stiffer than glass fiber, so less material is required. This is evident in the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body panels, which are approximately 1.5mm thick - about 70% thinner than typical glass fiber panels. Less composite material requires less labor to manufacture, and Voodoo Hot RodsTM epoxy-carbon/Kevlar® bodies are manufactured using a semi-automated process. The design of the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body is more like that of a conventional car, which has a strong steel substructure with a thin sheet metal skin. Voodoo Hot RodsTM bodies feature a substantial structural steel space frame chassis with integral roll cage, skinned with a non-structural carbon fiber and Kevlar® body. Voodoo Hot RodsTM source raw materials in volume direct from manufacturers to reduce costs, uses proprietary manufacturing techniques and has invested in technical resources that further reduce manufacturing overheads.

How can Voodoo Hot Rods produce a sophisticated tubular chassis incorporating a full roll cage for approximately the same cost as a chassis based on stamped reproduction rails?

Stamped reproduction chassis rails are premium priced relative to the cost of the steel used to produce them, so much of the cost is due to the tooling and manufacturing resources used to produce a relatively low volume product. Added to this is the cost of additional steel, labor and 'double handling' to fabricate bare stamped rails into a finished chassis. Contrasting this, Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis are fabricated from seamless steel tube that is mass-produced, which keeps material costs down. Voodoo Hot RodsTM has invested in chassis design, tooling and proprietary manufacturing techniques that eliminate 'double handling', minimize labor costs and reduce manufacturing overheads.

What conditions apply when ordering?

To place an order, Voodoo Hot RodsTM require a 50% deposit payable by cashier's check, bank deposit or electronic transfer for 2012 orders of Voodoo EvolutionTM 32Rs with ID numbers up to #10. An additional 40% payment is required prior to orders being shipped from the factory. A final payment of 10% is required when a customer or their representative inspects their Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R order, before taking delivery. Deposits on pre-orders for 2013 production require a $100 deposit. Voodoo Hot RodsTM does not accept payment by personal check, credit card, PayPal or similar services. Purchasers are required to confirm their order by sending a completed, official Voodoo Hot RodsTM 'Order Form' by registered post or email. Voodoo Hot RodsTM does not take phone orders, only documented orders that can be tracked. a Voodoo Hot RodsTM 'Order Form' will be supplied to the customer prior to ordering. After placing an order Voodoo Hot RodsTM will confirm it has been received and will issue the customer a unique 'Order Number'. With strictly limited production numbers, to assure the priority of all purchasers on a first-come, first-serve basis the 'Order Number' issued to each customer must appear on all deposit payment documentation. For example, if transferring funds by TT, the 'Order Number' must appear on the TT payment documents. Due to the limited availability of Voodoo Hot RodsTM products, priority of orders and ID numbers are determined by the time and date that bank deposits or electronic transfers are received, or a cashier's check is cleared. After deposit funds are received Voodoo Hot RodsTM will contact the purchaser to confirm receipt and issue the ID number that will appear on their Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body and chassis. Orders are transferable to a third party, so if you place an order and your circumstances change you can sell your Voodoo Hot RodsTM order to another person, who must then pay the outstanding balance of the order. The high technology materials, design benefits, and advanced features, combined with the cost of a Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R package define our product as extremely good value for money. With limited availability, should a customer decide to sell their order to a third party they may be able to do so for significantly more than the retail price.

How long can I expect to wait for my Voodoo Evolution 32R order to be delivered?

Due to the increase in worldwide demand for carbon fiber and potential limited availability, Voodoo Hot RodsTM reserves the right to delay delivery of your Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R - however be assured it is in our interest to realise production and sales as quickly as possible. As each Voodoo Hot RodsTM body and chassis are fabricated in relation to each other we do not supply chassis and bodies separately. Supply of carbon fiber notwithstanding, to reduce shipping costs Voodoo Hot RodsTM ships multiple orders at the same time to the USA several times per year, which means there can be several months delay between each shipment. Delivery is also affected by when an order is placed, as there may be prior orders waiting for production to commence. In all cases, Voodoo Hot RodsTM will supply an estimated delivery period when an order is placed.

Can I speed up delivery if I pay to ship my order individually, at extra cost?

Yes. This will not increase production speed, but may save several months waiting for delivery of orders shipped in multiples in the same container to reduce cost. Orders for rolling chassis packages will incur higher freight costs as large and heavy parts including front and rear axles, brakes, engines and transmissions must be freighted to our premises for incorporation into a rolling chassis. Completed rolling packages are shipped in a dedicated container due to larger overall dimensions that preclude sharing freight space with multiple bare body / chassis / accessory pack orders. Additional freight costs for rolling packages are offset by cost-effective production due to use of special assembly jigs and experience that minimize fabrication time. Voodoo Hot RodsTM can quote rolling packages to customer specification including unique combinations of rear axle, brakes, engine, transmission, wheels & tires.

Are the Voodoo Evolution 32R body & chassis available separately?

Voodoo Hot RodsTM bodies and chassis are only available as a package. This helps preserve the investment owners make with matching ID numbers. A Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body/chassis package provides numerous benefits compared to conventional reproduction products yet costs less than a steel reproduction body and street rod chassis.

Where do I pick up my Voodoo Hot Rods order?

All orders must be picked up at Voodoo Hot RodsTM exclusive distributor in Los Angeles between 9am-5pm Monday-to-Friday, or 9am-12pm Saturday. You must confirm your estimated pick-up time at least 48 hours beforehand. Shipment from Los Angeles must be organized by the purchaser and be at his or her expense. The customer or their agent must inspect and confirm in writing that no damage has been incurred during shipping prior to taking delivery.

Are carbon fiber fenders and running boards for a full-fendered Evolution 32R roadster available?

At this time fenders and running boards are not available, however Voodoo Hot RodsTM plans to offer a full fendered roadster in future. If you order a Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R please indicate on the order form if you are interested in the body panels to make a full-fendered roadster and we will contact you when the fender package becomes available.

Does the Voodoo Evolution 32R body fit other brands of reproduction chassis?

The Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body and chassis are only sold as a package. In theory the body could be fitted to an original or reproduction 1932 chassis. However, substantial modifications would be required to either the floor pan of the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body, and/or the stamped chassis. There would be no benefit modifying a Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body to fit a different brand of chassis as the body offers numerous unique features compared to conventional reproduction bodies, and the Voodoo Hot RodsTM package is priced competitively.

Does the Voodoo Evolution 32R chassis fit other brands of reproduction body?

The Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body and chassis are only sold as a package. In theory a conventional reproduction '32 roadster body could be modified to fit a Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis, however the modifications to adapt it would be so extensive the cost would exceed that of a Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R body, and the result would weigh hundreds of pounds more.

Are molds for the Voodoo Evolution 32R taken from an original steel car?

Manufacturing automotive panels using vacuum-bagged and post-cured carbon and Kevlar fiber requires the use of high-temperature epoxy molds that have a special flange around the perimeter used to seal the vacuum. Molds were originally taken from a steel Deuce roadster, however as fitting flanges to an original car is not practical, new plugs were modified to produce molds with the required specifications for vacuum-bag manufacturing. Voodoo Hot RodsTM only uses epoxy resin for mold tooling and panels, which features virtually no shrinkage compared to commonly used polyester resin characterized by up to 8% shrinkage. With high shrinkage rates, copying polyester/glass molds from polyester/glass parts can lead to inaccurate panel dimensions.

Will other brands of rear ladder bars fit a Voodoo Evolution 32R chassis?

Other brands of rear ladder bars would most likely require modifications to fit the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis. The optional 32R Rear Ladder Bar Kit has been specifically designed for the chassis and includes special axle brackets that incorporate rear coil-over shock mounts. The Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis includes integral front mounts for the rear ladder bars as standard. The 32R Rear Ladder Bar Kit is priced on par with the cost of similar packages from other manufacturers when the cost of a front cross-member and lower coil-over shock mounts are added. The Voodoo Hot RodsTM kit also features the strength afforded by 360-degree, double-shear axle brackets compared to popular ladder bars kits that only offer single-shear brackets.

Will other brands of front radius rods fit a Voodoo 32R chassis?

Other brands of front radius rods may fit the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis but would require chassis mounts to be fabricated. The 32R Front Radius Rod Kit is priced on par with the cost of a good quality radius rods from other manufacturers.

Are Voodoo Evolution 32R radius rods available in stainless steel?

At this time Voodoo Hot RodsTM only offer radius rod packages in seamless DOM steel, as this is significantly stronger than stainless steel.

Can early Ford front wishbones be used on the Voodoo Evolution 32R chassis?

Early Ford front 'wishbones' can be adapted to the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis, however new mounting brackets would need to be fabricated. The design of the Voodoo Hot RodsTM tubular chassis provides more clearance under the front chassis rail than a stock or reproduction '32 chassis so it's possible to use un-split 'bones and have these exit under the chassis rails with clearance for suspension travel. The non-structural composite Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis rail covers can be notched without compromising chassis strength to allow the wishbones to emerge from under the chassis. However, the potential to use original wishbones depends on factors unique to the components used on an individual vehicle.

Can early Ford rear radius rods be used on the Voodoo Evolution 32R chassis?

Popular early Ford rear radius rods can be adapted to the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis however new mounting brackets will have to be fabricated. The design of the Voodoo Hot RodsTM tubular chassis features approximately six inches more kick-up over the rear axle than an original Deuce frame, so it's feasible to use early Ford rear radius rods with adequate clearance for realistic suspension travel. The non-structural composite chassis rail covers can easily be notched for rear radius rod clearance if required, without compromising chassis strength. However, the potential to use original rear radius rods depends on factors unique to the components used on an individual vehicle.

What model QA1 rear shocks should I use?

The Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis has been designed to use QA1 Ultra Ride single adjustable coil over shocks Part No: UR5855P (anodized) or QA1 Part No: UR5855PX (polished). Alternatively, you can use QA1 Proma Star Drag Racing & Street Performance single adjustable coil over shocks Part No: DR5855P or Proma Star double adjustable coil over shocks Part No: DDR5855PX. All these shocks feature 17-inch extended length, 11-5/8 inch compressed length and 5-3/8 inches of travel.

What model QA1 front shocks should I use?

The Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis has been designed to use QA1 Street Star single adjustable front shocks Part No: STS1578PX. This shock offers 17-inch extended length, 11-5/8 inch compressed length and 5-3/8 inches of travel. Alternatively, you can use QA1 Stocker Star Drag Racing & Street Performance single adjustable shocks Part No: TC2511P or Stocker Star double adjustable shocks Part No: DTC2511P. These shocks feature 17-inch extended length, 11.5-inch compressed length and 5.5 inches of shock stroke. However, note that QA1 Stocker Star shocks are intended for rear use and may not suit your application. They also require two stud-to-loop upper and lower mount conversion parts per shock.

Can front and rear shocks other than QA1 be used with the Voodoo Evolution 32R chassis?

Yes, shocks other than QA1 can be used however they should have the same extended and compressed lengths as the recommended QA1 shocks. The Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis was designed to provide a lower ride height than conventional reproduction street rod chassis with longer suspension travel for increased comfort and improved handling. QA1 shocks were selected because they offer a choice of front and rear, single and double adjustable shocks with 5-3/8 inches of travel. At 17 inches overall length these shocks are much longer than most shocks used on street rod chassis, however due to Voodoo Hot RodsTM raised upper shock mounts, recommended QA1 shocks can be set up to provide three inches of compression and 2-3/8 inches of extension.

Can rear air springs be used on the Voodoo Evolution 32R chassis?

Assuming there's adequate clearance around the air spring mounting point, air springs can be used on the rear of the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis. As the chassis has been designed to provide a lower ride height than a reproduction chassis with increased suspension travel and axle clearance it's a good candidate for use with air springs. However, careful consideration needs to be given to the correct choice of air springs, with specifications that closely follow those of the QA1 shocks that the chassis was designed to use.

Can front air springs be used with the Voodoo Evolution 32R chassis?

Air springs can be used on the front of the Voodoo EvolutionTM 32R chassis as it has been designed to provide increased clearance and suspension travel for dropped front axles. However, careful consideration needs to be given to the additional engineering required as the standard front shock mounts have not been designed for use with air springs.
